VIDALIA — After defeating Bossier City in the 7- and 8-year-old state tournament bracket Sunday night, Bossier City rebounded and defeated Vidalia Monday night, forcing a winner-take-all contest to follow.

In the third encounter amongst the two all-star teams, Bossier City defeated Vidalia 17-7 to become state tournament champions.

“We were a little late on our bats in those games, and they put the ball in play in the field,” head coach Ryan Crum said. “You have to give it to Bossier. They absolutely smashed the ball today.”

Before falling in the tournament game, Vidalia suffered a 31-18 loss to Bossier City, thanks to a slow start defensively. Five errors and nine Bossier City hits paved the way for a 13-run first inning that put Vidalia in an immediate hole.

“We won the coin toss, and I was stubborn enough to pick home,” Crum said. “I shouldn’t have. Last night, we were visitors, and we jumped on them like they jumped on us tonight. It’s just hard to get these girls back up after that.”

Down 20-4 in the third inning, Vidalia mounted a rally, scoring eight runs in the process. Chanley Prunty recorded an RBI single, Lily Crum recorded an RBI double and Addie Johnson, Allie Grace McGehee, Natalie Webb, Laken Thompson and Julia Smith singled to put Vidalia within eight runs of Bossier City.

However, the ensuing inning, Bossier City added seven runs to its lead, opening the door for a 10-run stoppage, should it hold onto its 27-12 lead in the fourth. Vidalia wouldn’t allow that to happen though, scoring six runs to force a fifth inning.

Prunty, Kinslee Young, Crum, Johnson, McGehee, Webb and Thompson each recorded hits in the inning.

“I’m so proud of these girls it didn’t matter what happenned,” Crum said. “I couldn’t ask for a better team.”

Because there are no world series for this age group, both Vidalia and Bossier City’s runs have ended.
