GLOSTER — At approximately 9:13 a.m. today, a man allegedly walked into a United Mississippi Bank branch in Gloster and demanded an unknown amount of cash.
“He went to a teller, made a threatening statement, and demanded money,” said Adrian Sandel, UMB’s chief financial officer.
The bank teller and staff followed protocol, Sandel said, and handed the suspect the money.
Upon the suspect’s exit, which occurred approximately one minute after he entered the bank, a staff member called local law enforcement.
The Amite County Sheriff’s Office, Gloster Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
Not far from the bank, Sandel said law enforcement found the suspect hiding in a nearby wooded area.
Sandel said bloodhounds from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola were also used on the scene.
Once the dogs picked up the suspect’s scent, Sandel said the suspect was “immediately tracked down.”
All stolen money has since been recovered to the bank, and no one was injured in the incident.
