NATCHEZ — A Mass of Christian Burial for Freda Brown Piazza, 94, who died Thursday, July 16, 2015, after a period of declining health, will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. Leopold Keffler, O.F.M. Conv. officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

A lifelong resident of Jefferson County, Mrs. Piazza was born June 21, 1921, in Harriston, and lived most of her adult life on Fatland Plantation in Rodney. She was a world traveler and writer. She authored the book, A Lifetime of Shenanigans and wrote monthly columns for Bluffs and Bayous for a number of years. She was an avid hunter, fisherman, story teller and music lover. Her creative talents included knitting, clothing design, sewing and rock art.

Mrs. Piazza was past choir director and organist for St. Anne Catholic Church in Fayette and briefly served as organist for Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Natchez. She worked outside of the home for Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association in Lorman for 10 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Latham Howell and Pearl McGarry Brown; her husband, Salvadore Piazza Sr.; one son, Salvadore PiazzaJr.; and six siblings.

Survivors include four daughters, Vincentine Williams, Veronica Yockey, Patricia Murphy and Camella Richardson; one son, Michael Piazza; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
