JACKSON — In an executive meeting Tuesday afternoon, the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools voted almost unanimously to admit Cathedral High School into the association for the 2015-16 athletic season, a source close to the situation said.

According to two sources, following the vote, the potential move to MAIS by Catholic Diocese of Jackson schools now rests in the hands of Catholic Diocese of Jackson Bishop Joseph R. Kopacz.

If admitted, Cathedral would play in MAIS AAA and would be placed in Adams County Christian School’s district, both sources said.

Both sources expected an official ruling on Cathedral’s next destination to take place today.

Cathedral’s potential move to MAIS comes a week after the Mississippi High School Activities Association decided to uphold its out-of-state rule with a 9-1 vote in an executive meeting, preventing Louisiana students from competing in athletics at Cathedral.
