VIDALIA — The Concordia Parish Police Jury formally adopted a resolution Monday to fill the seat vacated by Juror Randy Temple’s death earlier this month.
The resolution, which was offered by Juror Jerry Beatty and seconded by Juror Whest Shirley, was to appoint Temple’s widow, Debra Temple, to the position.
Mr. Temple, who served on the jury in the 1980s and again continuously since 2000, died after a brief bout with cancer.
The intention to appoint Mrs. Temple had been previously announced, and Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington has previously said she should be bonded and sworn in next month.
The seat — along with the rest of the jury — will be up for election in the fall, and the new jury will take office in January.
In other news, the jury approved several payments for professional services and agreed to a proposal from Terry Trane Service Agency for repairs to the parish courthouse air-conditioning system.
The $8,135 in repairs will be to replace one of the air chillers that cools a portion of the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Emergency 911 offices, Police Jury Secretary-Treasurer Kevin Friloux said.
