New faces welcomed in the Miss-Lou

The Miss-Lou is known for its hospitality, and last week we welcomed a few new faces, along with promoting some deserving individuals. Let’s take a moment to callout some successes:
•Former battalion chief and fire marshal Aaron Wesley was named Natchez Fire Chief Tuesday. With 33 year of experience under his belt, Wesley said he feels qualified and ready to lead the Natchez Fire Department. We congratulate Wesley on his new title, and encourage him to continue serving and protecting Natchez to the best of his ability.
•Alcorn State University’s School of Nursing appointed a new dean and assistant dean last week. Dr. Debra Spring was named dean, and Dr. Rebecca Fairchild assistant dean. Both said they are working hard to prepare for students’ Aug. 24 arrival. Higher education is pivotal in fostering a strong, educated community, and we hope Spring and Fairchild will nurture that in the Miss-Lou.
•Delta Charter School named Buddy Givens new headmaster last week. A veteran educator, Givens brings a lot of experience to the table, and we’re confident in his ability to lead the school into a successful future.
•If you drove down North Canal Street last week, you probably saw the workers of Natchez couple Mike and Sharon Blattner out in the heat restoring the 50,000 square foot warehouse that neighbors their High Street residence. The couple purchased the warehouse for a simple reason — they wanted to restore it. We commend the Blattners for stepping up and investing in Natchez.
Let’s keep the productive momentum going as we begin another busy week.
