A private burial will be Monday morning in Jackson under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

Mrs. Green was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Jackson, the daughter of Walter Hicks and Linnie Jones Hicks. She was the eldest of five children.

Knoxine was a 1954 graduate of Jim Hill High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Jackson State University in 1958. After teaching a few years in Natchez, Knoxine decided to pursue graduate studies and completed her master’s degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1967.

Knoxine gave more than 33 years of dedicated service to the teaching profession in Adams County. During her teaching tenure, she received numerous awards including — The Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year (1996-1997.) She left lasting impressions on a number of students she taught.

She enjoyed reading God’s word, traveling and spending time with her family. She especially loved sharing moments with her five grandchildren.

Knoxine was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Green; two daughters, Kathleen Ruth and husband, Cory, of Atlanta and Karen Hawkins and husband, Eddie, of Natchez; four siblings, Vivian Taylor and husband, Herman, of Charleston, Ill., Roxanne Miller and husband, Milton, and Madelyn Griffith and husband, Victor, all of Jackson, and Joe Hicks and wife, Jacqueline, of Madison; three sisters-in-law, Artis Leake and Janie Green, both of Natchez, and Gloria Green of Baton Rouge; a dear childhood friend and sister, Mary Margaret Taylor of Jackson; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
