MINDEN, La. — The Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints came close to picking up their first win of the season not once but twice Saturday at the Glenbrook Tournament, only to end up with a total of two losses and a tie.
In its first game of the day, Trinity Episcopal and Claiborne Academy played to a 5-5 tie after the game was called by time after three innings of play. Both teams came out on fire in the first inning and it ended with the score tied at 4-4.
The Lady Saints scored one run in the top of the second inning to take a 5-4 lead, but the Lady Rebels tied the game with one run in the bottom of the third.
Trinity Episcopal was no match for host Glenbrook School as the Lady Apaches defeated the Lady Saints 4-0. That game was called before Glenbrook could finish the bottom of the third inning.
In their final game of the day, the Lady Saints took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the third inning only to see the Riverdale Academy Lady Rebels rally for two runs in the bottom of the third for a 6-5 win.
Riverdale led Trinity Episcopal 4-2 after one inning of play before the Lady Saints used a three-run rally in the top of the third to grab a 5-4 lead.
Next up for Trinity Episcopal (0-3-1) is a home game against Clinton Christian Academy at 6 p.m. Monday in the MAIS District 5-AA opener.
Centreville Academy goes 0-3 at
Copiah Academy Tournament
GALLMAN — The Centreville Academy Lady Tigers fast-pitch softball team was hoping to give new head coach Julie Carmichael her first win at the Copiah Academy Tournament.
Instead, Centreville ended up losing all three of its games Saturday to start off the 2015 season. First, the Lady Tigers lost to the longtime district rival Silliman Institute Lady Wildcats 14-0. Then they fell to the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Lady Patriots 9-4.
And in their final game of a very hot day, they were dealt another shutout loss, this time to the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers 10-0.
Despite being outscored by some really tough competition by a combined score of 33-4, Carmichael said that her team has nothing to be ashamed of.
“It was our first tournament. It was our first games (of the season),” Carmichael said. “They played hard. They learned a lot today. They showed a lot of character. They did well.”
It does not get any easier for Centreville as their next game will be the MAIS District 5-AAA opener at Silliman at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.
