NATCHEZ — The Natchez High Bulldogs will get to answer the lingering questions about their offensive line in a jamboree contest against McComb at 6 p.m. tonight.
As the Bulldogs travel to McComb tonight, interim coach Henry Garner hopes to find where both his weak and strong spots are on the team.
“We want to get a good look at our offensive line,” Garner said. “We’ve been up and down on that in practice, so we want to see how they respond against competition.”
Of course, Garner wants to make sure his skill position players understand their responsibilities, as well.
But defensively, Garner is interested in seeing how the Bulldogs defend McComb’s strong running game. Venchenza McCray and Dequan Smith, two of McComb’s top three rushes last season, will head up the Tigers rushing game. McCray rushed for 413 yards and 13 touchdowns, while throwing for 1,694 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. Meanwhile, Smith rushed for 445 yards and seven touchdowns.
“They have a strong running game,” Garner said. “So we’re going to see how our defense reacts. We’ll play a lot of guys on both sides.”
