Charles N. Yancey Jr.

FERRIDAY — Services for Charles N. Yancey Jr., 92, a longtime resident of New Orleans, formerly of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, in Colorado Springs, Colo., will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Ferriday First Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Morea officiating.

Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Mausoleum in Ferriday under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mr. Yancey was a graduate of Mississippi State University and Louisiana State University. He also served as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and was a decorated World War II and Korean War veteran. He later retired as a geophysicist for Shell Oil Company and was employed with them for 34 years.

Mr. Yancey was preceded in death by his parents, Charles N. Yancey Sr. and Lela Hartsoe Yancey; his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Vaughn; and one brother, Richard K. Yancey.

Survivors include one son, Eugene Yancey of Hendersonville, Tenn.; one daughter, Elizabeth Yancey Stapel of Colorado Springs; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
