LIBERTY — Services for Earl Wade Smith, 86, of Liberty, who died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at noon Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty with the Rev. Jerry Causey officiating.
Interment will be at Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born on December 9, 1928 in Liberty, the son of Robert T. Smith and Lucille Van Norman Smith.
He was an electrician and a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church near Liberty. He was also a retired U.S. Navy veteran, with 20 years military service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara Hanson Smith and second wife, Nellie Creech Smith; three sisters, Doris Tumey, Evelyn Jones and Estelle Wall and one brother, R.T. Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by two children, Jeri Sue Kelly and her husband, Raymond, and Rob Smith and his wife, Karla; four grandchildren, Brent Tosspon, Valerie Tosspon, Andrew Smith and Kelsey Smith; two great-grandchildren, Grayson Tosspon and Rosalie Tate Tosspon; a number of nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to Mr. Earl as “Uncle Punk” and four step-children, Larry Crowell, Ray Doerr and his wife, Tammy, Susie Jones and her husband, Steven, and Deborah Cruthirds.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 4923 Mt. Vernon Road, Liberty, MS 39645.
