NATCHEZ — The Miss-Lou Youth Activities Association is looking to start a youth flag football league this fall with games being played at Liberty Park on Chester Willis Field.
For age divisions 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12, the flag football league will serve as an introduction to the game of football without putting any pads on, organizer Nook Logan said.
“A lot of parents don’t think their kids are ready to play tackle football at those ages,” he said. “So why not start a program where we teach these kids earlier? When they become eligible to play tackle football around age 8, they will know the basics of the game, and they’ll be more developed in the football aspect.”
Logan said registration would end Sept. 18 with the skill assessment occurring the following week. The season will begin Oct. 5. Those wanting to register can see Chip Sturdivant at Sports Center in Natchez, or contact Logan at 601-807-6570.
Cost for registration will be $75 per child, including jersey top and flags.
Most of the games will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and Logan said his goal will be not to conflict with high school or college football.
“We just want to teach kids how to line up in a formation, how to carry a football and how to use proper techniques,” Logan said.
