NATCHEZ — All Abby Brown could think about after a 3-2 softball win against Adams County Christian School was her bed.
After playing a soccer game last Thursday, cheering on Friday, running cross country and playing softball Saturday, attending cheer practice on Sunday, playing in a softball game on Monday and playing both a soccer and softball game Tuesday, the Cathedral High School senior was feeling the effects that came from sleep deprivation.
“I don’t sleep,” Brown said, laughing. “I probably got three hours of sleep (Monday night) because I had two tests to study for. I went to bed at midnight and got back up at 3 (a.m.) to finish studying.”
Along with running cross country, playing softball and soccer, Brown cheers and tries to maintain her 4.2 GPA at Cathedral High School. She’s found a means of sleeping, though, taking a nap after her last class while she waits for cheerleader practice.
“I’ll take a nap in my car before cheer practice a lot of times,” Brown said. “I have a body pillow in the backseat.”
Following a 5-1 win against ACCS in girls soccer action, Brown ran across the field and changed into her softball uniform for a contest against the Lady Rebels Tuesday night. In attendance was her soccer coach Beth Foster, who said Brown almost had to play goalie in the contest.
“Well, our goalie broke her finger, so we had a meeting earlier in the day, and I told her she might have to play,” Foster said. “She ended up not playing goalie, but she ran nonstop. She can play any position on the team.”
With math being her favorite subject, Brown challenged herself academically by taking college algebra and calculus this year.
As she endures her final year at Cathedral, Brown is eyeing Mississippi State as the college she wants to attend, looking to study mechanical engineering.
Judging by her senior experience, Brown isn’t worried about any workload that awaits her.
“I’ve gotten pretty good at adjusting,” Brown said.
