NATCHEZ — A Vidalia woman was airlifted from Adams County Thursday morning after a vehicle struck her.
Diane Hammers had parked her truck on the side of the road near a shop on U.S. 61 north not far from Redd Loop Road shortly before the accident, which happened at approximately 10:30 a.m., Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
Hammers apparently stepped from in front of her vehicle into the roadway and was struck by a passing vehicle, and sustained several injuries, Mayfield said.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office escorted an ambulance from the scene to a helicopter pad, where Hammers was airlifted to an Alexandria-area hospital, Mayfield said.
The sheriff said he did not know if the driver of the other vehicle was cited.
The incident remains under investigation.
