VIDALIA — Qualifying for Concordia Parish’s — and the State of Louisiana’s — next round of elected leaders begins Tuesday.

Candidate qualifying for the Oct. 24 general primary will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Assistant Clerk of Court Becky Zerby said those who wish to qualify need to have their qualification fees in cash, cashier’s check or postal money order. The clerk’s office cannot accept personal checks for qualifying, she said.

“Those who want to qualify with a party do have to pay more because those fees have to be paid to the local Democratic Party, the state Democratic Party, the local Republican Party and the state Republican Party,” Zerby said.

The requirements and fees for those who wish to qualify for an office are posted in the clerk’s office but are also available online at 1.usa.gov/1UAgng6.

On the ballot will be all of the Concordia Parish Police Jury’s seats, as well as sheriff, clerk of court, tax assessor and coroner.

Incumbent Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick, who was elected sheriff in 2012, has previously said he will run for re-election. One challenger, Payne Scott, has also indicated his intention to seek the office.

Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber, who first took office in 1966, has also said he plans to seek another term.

Concordia Parish’s state legislative seats — senate districts 32 and 34 and house seat 21 — are also open for qualifying.

Statewide races on the ballot include governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer, commissioner of agriculture and forestry and commissioner of insurance.
