Expansion, Dixie Thunder highlight week

While most of the Miss-Lou takes a well-deserved break this Labor Day, let’s take a moment to remember some of the good news from our community last week:

4The Vidalia Riverfront’ riverwalk debuted an impressive 1,300-feet expansion last week. With a 5.5 mile walking trail loop envisioned for the riverwalk, the walkway has proven to be a great outlet for enjoying the Mississippi River while getting in some exercise. We thank all leaders who played a part in the riverwalk’s expansion, and encourage residents to take a stroll down the pathway.

4Thousands of bikers rode into town Friday and Saturday for the annual Dixie Thunder Run. The event boasted great entertainment along the bluff and a special visit from Gov. Phil Bryant. We thank all event organizers who ensured a smooth weekend filled with good, family fun. We also thank our downtown businesses for accommodating our guests with Natchez’s special hospitality.

4Delta Charter School welcomed students Tuesday, marking the first day of the 2015-2016 school year. Teachers started off on a high note, too, by introducing an expanded robotics program meant to expose students to hands-on learning. We thank the school’s administration for continuously looking for new and innovative learning strategies to engage students.

As we gear up for another busy week, let’s remember to carry last week’s positive momentum.
