NATCHEZ — The Cathedral Lady Green Wave managed just three hits and committed one miscue after another that Simpson Academy took advantage of as the Lady Cougars clinched the MAIS District 4-AAA championship with a 14-2 five-inning win over Monday afternoon.

Simpson Academy avenged a home loss to Cathedral a month ago and in the process ended any chance of the Lady Green Wave winning the district title. The win propelled the sixth-ranked Lady Cougars to 17-8 overall and 6-1 in district play.

“They were hitting the ball really good. They were on top of their game,” Cathedral head coach Gary Blackwell said about Simpson Academy. “We had at least seven or eight or nine errors. We weren’t playing near as good as we should have.”

The Lady Cougars scored three runs in the top of the first inning before the Lady Green Wave put up one run in the bottom of the first. It was 5-1 heading into the bottom of the third, when Cathedral scored its second and final run of the game.

Simpson Academy plated nine runs over the last three innings, six of them in the top of the sixth inning which eventually ended the game an inning early.

“They came here to win. They came here to take care of business,” Blackwell said. “They did everything right tonight.”

Elizabeth Smith was charged with the loss for the Lady Green Wave. The one bright spot at the plate was Fisher Iseminger, who went 2-for-2 with a triple. Christin Smith was 1-for-2.

“We’ve got to play a lot better than we are right now. We aren’t playing good ball right now,” Blackwell said.

Cathedral (5-8, 2-2) plays at Brookhaven Academy in a critical district varsity doubleheader today at 5 and 7 p.m. Cathedral’s game at Trinity Episcopal that was scheduled for this Thursday has been postponed. Blackwell said he doesn’t know if the game will be rescheduled.

Centreville Academy 2

FRANKLINTON, La. — The Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers defeated the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers 8-2 in a pivotal MAIS District 5-AAA game Monday night.

The win by Bowling Green probably ended any chance of Centreville advancing to the postseason. Riley Allen suffered the loss for the Lady Tigers.

“Maci Miley turned two double plays. Other than that, it was a down and dirty game until the last inning,” Lady Tigers head coach Julie Carmichael said.

Trinity at Franklin Academy postponed

WINNSBORO, La. — The late Monday afternoon game between MAIS District 5-AA opponents Trinity Episcopal and Class AA third-ranked Franklin Academy has been postponed.

The game will be rescheduled for a day to be determined. Also, last Thursday’s district match-up between the Lady Saints and the Amite School Center Lady Rebels that was not played to due inclement weather in Liberty will not be rescheduled.
