Bark in the Park headlines busy week

As temperatures increased last week, so did the good news in the Miss-Lou. Let’s take a moment do call out some recent accomplishments:

4Alcorn State University was ranked No. 29 in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges list of Top Public Schools Regional Universities (South). Moving up from No. 35, Alcorn’s prestigious rank is something to celebrate. The school also ranked No. 27 in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities category. We thank all Alcorn teachers and administrators who made that distinguished ranking possible. Keep up the good work.

4With a swooping, black cape and a heroic spirit, Batman made a personal visit to Vidalia Lower Elementary School Friday. His visit corresponded with the school’s Accelerated Reader Kickoff Day, appropriately themed “Super Readers” this year. We commend Vidalia Lower Elementary teachers who tapped into their creative faculties to make reading fun for students.

4Local four-legged friends flooded the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians Saturday for the 23rd annual Bark in the Park. While the event touted cute contests featuring some of the area’s cuddliest pets, its mission was a commendable one, too. The event benefited the new Natchez Adams County Humane Shelter, which opens its doors Saturday. We encourage residents to support the shelter and perhaps adopt a furry friend of their own.

As we begin another busy week in the Miss-Lou, let’s remember to carry the strong momentum from last week’s successes.
