FERRIDAY — A memorial service for John P. Bryant, 82, of Jonesville, who died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ferriday Church of Christ.

Arrangements were under the direction of Elliott Funeral Home in Moulton, Ala.

John P. Bryant, former general manager of Louisiana Delta Plantation in Jonesville, was born Dec. 28, 1932, in Empire, Ala. He was descended from a family with a long history of agriculture, and began his studies in agronomy and soils at Auburn University in 1954, ultimately earning a Ph.D. from North Carolina State in 1964.

After working in such occupations as a senior agronomist in fertilizer sales and agricultural management, he first assumed the general manager position at Louisiana Delta, as it is more commonly known, in 1978. He remained in Jonesville for three years before being transferred to Nebraska to assume other duties for the parent company, Morrison Enterprises of Hastings, Neb.

After returning to Louisiana in 1994, Dr. Bryant stayed at Louisiana Delta for the remainder of his career as either a manager or consultant through the farm’s various ownerships.

Mr. Bryant was an exemplary Christian man who always possessed a smiling, humble heart and a generous spirit. He loved agriculture and the people associated with it, and will be greatly missed by the many employees and acquaintances of the area which over time became his adopted home.

He was buried in Moulton Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; two sons, Tim and wife, Kelly, and David and three grandchildren, Mazie, Camilla and Selma.
