Delta Charter ready for district battle vs. Oak Grove

Ferriday — Delta Charter head football coach Jarrett Hoffpauir isn’t fooled by Oak Grove’s 0-3 record.

When the Storm host the Tigers tonight, Hoffpauir said he knows it is going to be a tough battle.

“They are 0-3, but that means absolutely nothing,” Hoffpauir said. “They scheduled some powerhouse schools early on and they are going to be a good team. They are well coached and disciplined. If we don’t play, it is going to be a long night.”

The Storm, however, aren’t going to back down from the challenge, especially after their showing last week against a 4A school in Grant.

“We are still young and learning, but hopefully that game will carry over,” Hoffpauir said. “We are just continuing to do the same things and have to get better every week.”

Hoffpauir said Oak Grove won’t throw many complicated things at them.

“On offense they are kind of basic,” he said. “They run a dive option out of the eye, and that is their go-to. They are going to try and pound it at us. They aren’t going to throw it too much. Their front five are strong.”

Hoffpauir will look for freshman quarterback Trey Poole to turn in another solid performance like he did against Grant, completing 13 of his 15 passes for more than 130 yards, and will also turn to Freddie Mango who recorded 66 total yards and added a touchdown.

“We are going to have to play four good quarters of football, be disciplined and have everybody do their job,” Hoffpauir said. “We got away from that early in the game last week, but played a good second half.”
