NATCHEZ — Services for Ida Early Newman, 99, of Vidalia, who died Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at the Adams County Nursing Center, will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Second Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Strickland officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life service at 5 p.m.
Visitation will continue from 1:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Newman was born Oct. 10, 1915, in Adams County, the daughter of Saul Geans and Mary Alice Ballard Early.
She was a homemaker and a member of Second Union Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess. Her hobbies included fishing and cooking.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matt Newman; one son, Charles Marsaw Sr.; one grandson, Lawrence Clemons; and 10 sisters and brothers.
Survivors include one son, James Bindon of Vidalia; one sister, Gertrude Wilson of Natchez; four granddaughters, Lachell Clemons, Ida Clemons, both of Jackson, Doretha Bledsoe and husband, Michael, of Baton Rouge and Carolyn Anderson and husband, Ray, of Natchez; two grandsons, Michael Clemons and wife, Sandra, and Charles Clemons and wife, Veronica, all of Natchez; one daughter-in-law, Willie Mae Clemons of Natchez; 10 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
