JONESVILLE — A Jonesville woman was severely injured Tuesday after she lost control of her vehicle on U.S. 84, spun off the road and hit a tree near the Frogmore Plantation in Ferriday.

Concordia Fire District No. 2 Chief Nolen Cothren said when first responders arrived to the scene at approximately 7:20 a.m., they found Angelica Francheska Woods, 23, trapped beneath the dashboard of her car with several broken bones.

Cothren said Woods’ car was mangled around the tree, and her medical condition was severe when an ambulance arrived.

“We had to extricate her (from the vehicle,” he said. “Her leg was broken in half. It was bad.”

After seven Concordia Parish firefighters, Concordia Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Louisiana State Police were able to remove Woods from the scene, Cothren said Woods was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center.

At 9:19 p.m. Tuesday, Woods was in the surgical intensive care unit receiving treatment, Rapides Regional Medical Center public relations officer Sarah Clancy said.

Cothren said what caused the wreck is under investigation.

“We have no idea how it happened,” Cothren said. “She said she was late for work. She kept saying that over and over again.”

No one else was injured in the wreck.
