VIDALIA — The arraignment of a former Natchez teacher charged with molestation of a teenage student has been rescheduled for a second time.
Former Cathedral coach and teacher Brett Hinson was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at the Concordia Parish Courthouse. The arraignment had been previously postponed at the request of the district attorney’s office.
Concordia Parish District Attorney Brad Burget said he was notified approximately 24 hours before the scheduled arraignment that a medical issue would prevent Hinson from appearing in court.
At the district attorney’s request, the court granted a warrant for Hinson’s arrest that will be executed if Hinson does not appear for his rescheduled arraignment on Oct. 14. The court essentially gave Hinson a grace period in light of the medical issue.
Hinson was charged with molestation of a juvenile and computer-aided solicitation of a minor, Burget said.
Hinson pleaded guilty in a Mississippi court in late August to two charges of touching a child for lustful purposes after the victim’s family asked the district attorney to settle the matter without a trial.
The parents filed the complaint after the student’s mother showed the father a photo of their daughter’s car parked at the Natchez City Cemetery along with another vehicle, the report said.
The student reportedly told her parents the details after they confronted her about the matter, the report said.
Investigators believe Hinson’s relationship with the student occurred in both states.
