The Avoyelles High School Mustangs scored double-digit points in all four quarters en route to a 70-20 dismantling of the Vidalia High School Vikings in an LHSAA District 3-3A game Friday night.
Avoyelles jumped out to a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Vidalia tried gallantly to come back in the second quarter, but could not make enough stops on defense to keep it close. The Mustangs took a 32-14 lead into halftime.
The second half belonged to the home team. Avoyelles dominated Vidalia on both sides of the ball and continued to add and add and add to its lead. The Mustangs outscored the Vikings 24-6 in the third quarter and put an exclamation point on the blowout with a 14-0 fourth quarter.
Vidalia (2-3, 1-1) will look to regroup and get back on the winning track when it welcomes district rival Jena for homecoming next Friday at 7 p.m.
