CENTREVILLE — A 35-7 halftime lead for Trinity Episcopal Day School couldn’t hold off a furious Centreville Tigers rally Friday night.

To make matters worse, after falling behind 41-35, Trinity came one yard short of victory. After completing a long pass to Jakarius Caston, the Saints drove it to the Centreville 2-yard line before the snap hit quarterback Kevontaye Caston in the facemask and was recovered by Centreville.

“I’m not sure what happened on that play,” Trinity head coach Zach Rogel said.

In the first half, speed was the difference. After two Kevontaye rushing touchdowns, the Saints led 14-0 in the first quarter. A Sammy Banks fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, a Kevontaye 92-yard punt return touchdown and a 48-yard touchdown pass from Kevontaye to Jakarius gave Trinity a commanding lead at the half.

“Our short passing game was there,” Rogel said. “Jakarius was a tough matchup for them. But they made adjustments at halftime. They started sending pressure.”

With Centreville forcing punts and Trinity offensive lineman Spencer Adams going down with a knee injury in the second half, Trinity’s offense failed to get anything going. Meanwhile, Centreville quaterback/wide receiver Tyler Caston heated up.

Caston had four second half touchdowns, including a 70-yard passing touchdown to Stone Reynolds.

Britt Netterville scored three total touchdowns for the Tigers in the contest.

Centreville outgained Trinity 530 to 335 in total yards.

“It’s a tough loss to take,” Rogel said. “The kids are bummed, but they’re both mentally and physically exhausted from a game like that. We just have to keep on going.”

With the loss, Trinity falls to 3-5 on the season, while Centreville improves to 5-3.
