NATCHEZ — A motorist received minor injuries early Saturday when her car left the road and caught fire near Melrose-Montebello Parkway.

Natchez Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Gibson said a woman ran off the road just past the intersection of Melrose-Montebello Parkway and Fatherland Road.

The car hit one of the concrete light poles in the ditch and caught fire, Gibson said.

A passerby got the driver out of the vehicle before the fire department arrived. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, which Gibson said was confined to the vehicle.

The woman was later transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
