Early votes cast in Louisiana elections

VIDALIA — Approximately 9 percent of Concordia Parish’s registered voters have already cast ballots in Saturday’s election.
On the ballot are statewide races — including governor and lieutenant governor — and parish elections for police jury and sheriff.
Louisiana allows early voting, and in the seven days of early voting that ended Saturday, 1,067 of the parish’s 13,206 active and inactive voters cast ballots at the registrar of voter’s office.
As of Tuesday afternoon, 88 absentee ballots had also been received.
“This is a good turnout for early voting for Concordia Parish,” Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger said. “We have had elections where we have had more, but this was a nice turnout.”
Voting for those who chose not to cast their ballots early will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at local election precincts.
While all of the parish elections will be decided Saturday — with only two candidates in each race, no run-off will be necessary — the run-off for any statewide elections needed would be Nov. 21.
Even though voter registration for Saturday’s election is closed, those who want to be able to vote in the run-off can still register — but today is the deadline.
Registration can be done in-person at the registrar of voter’s office in the Concordia Parish courthouse or online at 1.usa.gov/1wVLmrc.
