HAZLEHURST — The Hazlehurst Indians scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 56-20 win over the Jefferson County Tigers Friday night in an MHSAA Division 7-3A game.
Hazlehurst (9-0, 4-0), ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, jumped out to a 22-0 halftime lead before Jefferson County made it a game with a 20-point surge in the third quarter to get within 12 points of the lead at 32-20.
But the Tigers could not keep the momentum going in the fourth quarter. The Indians, on the other hand, scored their 22 points in the game’s final four and a half minutes.
Jefferson County (3-6, 2-2) will try to keep its playoff hopes alive next Friday, but it will not be easy as the Tigers play host to Franklin County. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
