VIDALIA — Services for Marten Kyle “Marty” Probst, 59, of Vidalia, who died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Vidalia First Baptist Church with Dr. Ralph Webber Sr. officiating.

Burial will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday, both at the church.

Mr. Probst was born July 15, 1956, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Juanita Wray Probst Hutson and stepson to Dr. Edwin E. Hutson.

He was an active member of Vidalia First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, a member of the Hope Sunday School Class and a member of the choir.

Marty loved his church family and they, in turn, loved him greatly. He also sang with The Messengers for more than 20 years and blessed a number of area churches with songs. Marty was always trying to be a blessing to others by his many acts of kindness, such as handing out peppermints at church and baking chocolate chip cookies for everyone he met.

He was employed by Cook Lawn & Tractor of Natchez as assistant manager and parts manager.

Mr. Probst was preceded in death by his stepfather; his father-in-law, John Gore; brother-in-law, Bren Gore; and one nephew, Brandon Burnette.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 37 years, Debra Gore Probst; one son, Matthew Probst and wife, Emily, of Pineville, La.; one daughter, Kimberly Warren and husband, Eric, of Natchez; four grandchildren, Madison Warren, Zack Warren, Bolton Probst and Maddox Probst; his mother of Brookhaven; two brothers, Bruce Probst and wife, Amy, of Mandeville, La., and Tommy Probst and wife, Cheryl, of Vidalia; one sister, Benita Hutson of Brookhaven; mother-in-law, Louise Gore of Vidalia; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a number of cherished friends.

Pallbearers will be Whest Shirley, Adam Probst, Joseph Purvis, Pate Shirley, Russell Cook, William Cook, Charles Stevens and Wesley Warren.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Edward Daly, Dr. Kenneth Stubbs, Dr. Blane Mire, Robert Warren, Robert Parker, James Martin, Art Verdel and Dan Brister.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of Probst Benefit at Concordia Bank & Trust Company in Vidalia or to the Amercian Cancer Society.
