NATCHEZ — The weekend’s rain may have been a welcome sight for many Adams County residents, but the muck and mud left by torrential downpours is not so appreciated by local neighborhood watch groups and law enforcement.

Because of the rain and mud, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has rescheduled today’s observance of National Night Out to Nov. 10, ASCO Public Information Officer Courtney Taylor said.

The series of community events is meant to give residents the opportunity to interact with law enforcement officers in their neighborhoods. Sheriff’s deputies caravan from one neighborhood to the next and meet with residents and area Neighborhood Watch committees.

In recent years, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office has opted to observe National Night Out in the mild month of October like other jurisdictions in the South, rather than the traditional August dates observed across much of the country, including the Natchez Police Department.
