The Adams County Jail’s online booking system shows Kelsey Michael Watson, 20, was booked at 6:42 p.m. Wednesday on charges of murder, armed robbery and attempt to commit murder. He was being detained on a $750,000 bond on the three new charges and no bond on a parole violation charge.

An Adams County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said Thursday Watson had previously been treated in a Jackson-area hospital for wounds received during the shooting in which he has been identified as a suspect. He was booked after his release from the hospital.

Watson was identified as the fourth suspect in the Oct. 11 slaying of Clifford Barnes, who deputies found dead in his wrecked Toyota Camry in a ditch on Kings Circle.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said Barnes had been shot several times.

Injured along with Barnes was Kimberly Singleton, who was shot in the back and told investigators she was five months pregnant at the time of the shooting. Singleton was transported to a Jackson-area hospital and is in recovery. Her unborn child survived the attack.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office later characterized the shooting as “an alleged drug deal gone awry.”

The three other suspects in the killing — Darryl Keith Hurts, 17, Chadrich Akeem Watson, 22, and Darnell D. Stevenson, 17 — were arrested shortly after the incident.

They were all charged with murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.

Those three suspects are currently detained in the jail on $925,000 bonds.
