ST. JOSEPH — A St. Joseph man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 26-year-old man.

George Smith, 19, was booked into the Tensas Parish Jail Sunday following the incident, which happened at a residence in St. Joseph, a Louisiana State Police Troop F spokesperson said in a prepared statement.Witnesses told investigators Smith and the victim, Ettrick Polk of St. Joseph, were involved in an altercation at the residence in question when Smith brandished a gun and fired at Polk. Two bullets struck the victim.

Polk later died at a local hospital.

Smith was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
