NATCHEZ — Services for Elijah “Bruh” Johnson, 87, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at his residence, will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Forest Aid Baptist Church with the Rev. Kejuane Bates officiating.
Burial will follow at Carthage Point Cemetery in Natchez under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was born March 7, 1928, in Adams County, the son of Elijah Johnson Sr. and Pauline Banks Myles.
He attended St. Francis School in Natchez and was retired from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Forest Aid Baptist Church.
He was also a member of Mississippi Cattlemen’s Association. He was a fisherman, an avid hunter and loved spending time with his family.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Ida B. Johnson; six daughters, Doris Drake, Sandra Wimberly and husband, Larry, Paulette Montgomery, Bonita Hamilton and husband, Wendell, Dietrich Beard and husband, Fritz, all of Natchez, and Joyce Ellington of Atlanta; two sons, Elijah “June” Johnson III and wife, Linda, of Houston and Johnathan “Pokey” Johnson and wife, Gwen, of Natchez; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be sons and nephews.
