GIRLS ROUNDUP: ACCS, Jefferson County pick up wins

CENTREVILLE — Bailey Boyd led all scorers with 16 points and Mackenzie Boyd had 10 points to lead a balanced scoring attack for Adams County Christian School as the Lady Rebels defeated the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers 63-39 Tuesday night.
ACCS got off to a good start on the offensive end, putting up 20 points and leading Centreville by seven points at the end of the first quarter. But the Lady Tigers clamped down on defense and outscored the Lady Rebels 11-8 in the second quarter to go into halftime down just four points, 28-24, to one of the top teams in MAIS Class AAA.
But the second half was a completely different story as ACCS dominated Centreville on both ends of the court. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Tigers 17-7 in the third quarter and 18-8 in the fourth quarter.
Anna McDaniel and Caitlyn Gamberi added eight points each while Brianna Henson and Ashleigh Williams chipped in with six points each for the Lady Rebels. Katilyn Chandler finished with 10 points and Sydnie Lyons had nine points to lead the Lady Tigers in scoring.
ACCS (5-1) next plays on Thursday night at Oak Forest Academy. Centreville Academy doesn’t play again until next Monday night at ACCS.
Jefferson County 51, Amite County 41
FAYETTE — Antrell Gales led Jefferson County with a game-high 16 points and Diamond Smith poured in 15 points as the Lady Tigers overcame a rough start to defeat the Amite County Lady Trojans 51-41 Tuesday night.
Jefferson County came out flat and Amite County took advantage. Led by Fredereka Smith and Danyelle Walker, the Lady Trojans enjoyed a 15-7 lead over the Lady Tigers at the end of the first quarter.
Smith led the Lady Trojans with 14 points and Walker chipped in with 11 points.
The Lady Tigers found their rhythm and got their shots to fall in the second quarter, but they still trailed by five points, 28-23, at halftime. In the second half, Jefferson County’s defense put the pressure on the Lady Trojans and that allowed the Lady Tigers to not only take the lead, but take control of the game.
Jefferson County outscored Amite County 15-8 in the third quarter for a 38-36 lead and 13-5 in the fourth quarter. Kailyn Hammett added 11 points for the Lady Tigers.
Jefferson County (3-1) next plays on Friday night at Natchez High School.
Monterey 32, Forest 17
MONTEREY — In an unusually low-scoring game, the Monterey High School Lady Wolves defeated the Forest High School Lady Bulldogs 32-17 Tuesday night.
Monterey led Forest 8-4 at the end of the first quarter and had that same advantage in the second quarter. The third quarter saw even less scoring as the Lady Wolves put up six points while the Lady Bulldogs were held to only three points.
The fourth quarter was somewhat better with Monterey outscoring Forest 10-6.
Monterey (5-2) will next play in its own tournament starting on Thursday.
Tensas High 51, Block 36
ST. JOSEPH — The Tensas High School Lady Panthers defeated the Block High School Lady Bears 51-36 Tuesday night. No other information on the game was available.
Block (2-1) next plays at the Monterey High School Tournament, which begins Thursday.
