NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies seized seven dogs Thursday from a county residence.
An ACSO spokesperson said the office had received several calls about animals that appeared neglected at 11 Grafton Heights, and — accompanied by two volunteers from the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society — representatives from the ACSO went to the address and found the animals.
Two other dogs that had already died and were described as “decaying” were also found at the residence.
The live animals appeared significantly malnourished, and their ribs, hip and spinal bones were easily visible under their fur. Among the live animals were several puppies of various breeds.
The animals were immediately removed from the residence, “in order to save the neglected dogs’ lives,” the spokesperson said, and were taken to a veterinarian’s office, where they remain.
The resident of the address, George Griffin, has been charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
