NATCHEZ — An Adams County man died in house fire on Rice Road Sunday night.
The Natchez Fire Department and Foster Mound Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to a house fire at 9:21 p.m. at 151 Rice Road in north Adams County.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-story house fully engulfed in flames, NFD Shift Commander David Williams said Monday morning. The house interior had already collapsed, Williams said.
Firefighters made an initial search of the structure, but the search was hard to conduct because of the condition of the house. Later, firefighters discovered the body of a person located near the rear of the house, Williams said.
Adams County Coroner James Lee said that he is in the process of identifying the person. Lee said Henry Foster Sr. is the name of the house owner, and Foster’s brother, who was at the scene, is almost positive Foster is the person who was in the house.
Lee said a definitive identification of the body will not be made until dental records are obtained and DNA testing can be performed, which will be completed at the state crime lab in Jackson, Lee said.
