VIDALIA — A Ferriday man is in custody in Concordia Parish on attempted murder charges two months after being arrested in Texas.

Henry L. Shavers, 48, 836 Fisherman Drive, Ferriday, was booked into the Concordia Parish Jail on a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

Shavers was originally arrested near Dallas on charges of aggravated assault, firearms violations — he’s a convicted felon — and misdemeanor charges.

But after he was arrested, Texas authorities discovered Shavers was wanted in Concordia Parish for attempted murder.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Vernon Stevens said Shavers allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened to kill her before actually attempting to kill her.

The victim was able to escape during the incident, which happened in the Ferriday area, Stevens said.

“He was already in jail in Texas, but because the charges in Texas were not as severe as the charges we had, they allowed us to transfer him back to our facility, where he was booked on the original charge of attempted second-degree murder,” Stevens said.

Shavers was detained without bond Tuesday.
