FERRIDAY — Officials have identified the alleged aggressor in an attempted murder-suicide that killed the shooter and hospitalized his intended victim as a 26-year-old Ferriday man.
Juane Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting at 106 Gremillion St., in Ferriday Tuesday evening. Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Vernon Stevens said the address was Johnson’s residence.
The survivor of the attack, a 20-year-old woman, has a child with Johnson and was shot in the head with a .45-caliber handgun, Stevens said.
She was not publicly identified because she is a victim, he said.
Investigators said Tuesday Johnson allegedly shot the victim when she was picking up the child and then turned the gun on himself.
The sheriff’s office had received a call about a couple fighting at the Gremillion Street address prior to the shooting.
The child, age 1, was at the scene but was in the victim’s vehicle and was uninjured in the incident. Stevens said the child has been released into the custody of family members.
The woman was transported to an Alexandria-area hospital, where she remained Wednesday and was awaiting surgery, Stevens said.
