VIDALIA — Services for Carolyn Brown Johnson, 67, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Vidalia with the Rev. Raymond T. Riley officiating.
Burial will follow at the Vidalia City Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.
Ms. Johnson was born Dec. 9, 1948, in Natchez, the daughter of Fred D. Brown and Victoria Brown.
She was a 1966 graduate of Concordia High School in Vidalia and furthered her education at Grambling State University.
As a young adult, Carolyn attended Holy Family Catholic Church. In 2000, she joined Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.
Carolyn was a great cook who enjoyed baking, sitting on her porch and working crossword puzzles. She was a warm and loving woman who never met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Fred P. Brown.
Survivors include her loving and devoted daughter, Danessa McCullen and husband, Jamal; four granddaughters, Ashley, Sidney, J’Mya and Jaimee, all of Natchez; one brother, Clarence Brown and wife, Sandra, of Pine Bluff, Ark.; former husband, Paul Kenneth Johnson of Natchez; one stepson, Paul Kenneth Negron of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a niece she raised as her own, Shonna Nicholle Riley and fiancé, Don Washington, who Carolyn loved dearly, both of Vidalia; the Rev. Kejuane Bates, a devoted person who was like a son to her; a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends; and her lifelong neighbors and friends, Marguerite Jones and Etta Mae Seals, both of Vidalia.
