A Natchez Christmas Carol

This weekend is theatergoers’ last chance to see Natchez Little Theatre’s “A Natchez Christmas Carol.”

The plot features cotton broker Ebenezer Scrooge as he mercilessly oppresses his fellow man until ghostly visitors show him the errors of his ways.

The final performances will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The curtain rises at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday.

Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased by calling 601-442-2233 or visiting natchezlittletheatre.org.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count

Early Saturday morning, birders will travel throughout Natchez to count birds for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. The Natchez birders will be participating in the event locally. The local event is part of a much larger bird count, which spans North and South America.

Birders of all experience levels are invited to help with the count. Coordinator Karen Dardick said birders are assigned an area to record the number and different species they see.

At the end of the day, the count is tallied. The data, Dardick said, helps scientists get information such as how local bird populations are changing.

It’s a positive way to make a difference for the environment, Dardick said.

“Plus it’s fun,” Dardick said.

The event lasts from approximately 7 a.m. until dark, but birders don’t have to stay all day. Birders can also count from their backyards, and new birders can ask to be accompanied by experienced ones.

Binoculars, eight power or above, are necessary, as is a bird guide. For more information, Dardick can be reached at 601-304-1007.

The Haves and the Have Nots Christmas

Living Word Worship Center’s Performing Arts Ministry will perform “The Haves and Have Nots Christmas” Sunday.

“It’s going to be an awesome show, a great message, a lot of laughs, a lot of crying, a lot of praising,” Director Vickie Green said.

The musical stage play revolves around the wealthy Vanderwolf family, which is nominated to bring an underprivileged mother and daughter into their house for Christmas. But the mother and daughter soon discover that not everything is as it seems in the Vanderwolf household, and their perfect life is a façade.

“They actually come to bring life into the family and offer the Vanderwolfs something they were supposed to be offering that family,” Green said.

The free performance starts at 7 p.m. at Living Word Worship Center on 8 Covington Road.
