NATCHEZ — Mayor Butch Brown is reportedly still in care at a Jackson hospital, but is doing better.
Brown was reportedly hospitalized Friday for unknown reasons. Family members would not confirm Brown’s hospitalization Saturday.
“Dad is well, and everything is fine,” Brown’s son Sessions Brown said.
Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis, who serves as mayor pro tem, said Saturday she had not spoken to the Brown family, but had heard the mayor was ill and in care at St. Dominic’s Hospital.
“All I know is that he is sick, but that he is doing a lot better,” Arceneaux-Mathis said.
In the event the mayor is not immediately able to return to City Hall, Arceneaux-Mathis said business would proceed just as it did when Brown underwent heart surgery in March.
“City government is going to move right on ahead,” Arceneaux-Mathis. “All of the aldermen know all of the projects that are in place, and we will move straight on through. We will handle it just as we did when he (had surgery). Any meetings he couldn’t make, I ran. Any places he was supposed to speak at, I was there.”
Arceneaux-Mathis said she is confident Brown will get well soon and be back to work.
“We should all be in normal mode right now,” she said. “He is going to be fine, and we will be wonderful.”
