NATCHEZ — Natchez Mayor Butch Brown is recovering in a Jackson hospital after suffering two strokes and is reportedly in good spirits.
A Brown family source said Brown recently suffered two light strokes, one before his recent trip to Paris and one shortly after he returned last week.
He is hospitalized at St. Dominic’s in Jackson where he is under observation.
Brown has a clot doctors have indicated should dissipate on its own, the family source said. When the clot dissipates, Brown will be moved to a rehab facility, where he is not expected to stay for an extended period of time.
The Natchez Board of Aldermen closed its specially called meeting Monday in prayer, led by the Rev. Clifton Marvel, for Brown.
Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis presided over the meeting as mayor pro tem in Brown’s absence and gave a brief update on the mayor’s condition.
“The mayor is ill, and it’s my understanding he is doing a whole lot better,” she said. “He is in good spirits and is chomping at the bits and ready to (get back to work). He just has a few more little obstacles to (overcome).”
