Man shot on New Year’s Day dies in hospital

NATCHEZ — A Natchez man who was shot in the head on New Year’s Day died Saturday afternoon from his injury, marking the year’s first homicide.

Adams County Coroner James Lee said Bobby Butler, 24, of 2 Gardner Circle, Natchez, died at 3:32 p.m. Saturday at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson of a gunshot wound to the head.

A source with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday deputies were called to the Broadmoor area of Adams County at approximately 4:16 p.m. Friday and summoned ambulance personnel.

Butler was initially transported to Merit Health Natchez, but was later transferred to UMC Medical Center where he died.

The case is being ruled a homicide until further investigation, Lee said. The autopsy will be conducted Monday.

“We have had more than enough shootings in Adams County,” Lee said.
