NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office investigators are searching for an unidentified shooter following a Tuesday morning incident that hospitalized a local man.
Deputies responded to the Merit Health Natchez emergency room, where the victim had gone for treatment, at approximately 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim told deputies he had gone to the residence of his child’s mother on Rand Acres Road and knocked on her bedroom window earlier in the evening, but an unknown man had answered the knock.
The victim told deputies that after the two men became involved in a verbal altercation, the victim punched the window, breaking the glass, and the unknown man responded by shooting him in the chest.
The victim fled the area on foot, cutting his legs on barb wire before getting back to his vehicle and driving himself to the hospital.
ACSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Cal Green said the investigation is ongoing and the ACSO is seeking to identify the shooter.
