Weekend ticket: Mardi Gras events top weekend

NATCHEZ — Natchez residents looking forward to the Mardi Gras weekend won’t be disappointed.
This weekend will be warm, but cloudy. Highs will be in the upper 60s and lows in the upper 40s, with a 10-percent chance of rain Friday and 20-percent chance on Saturday and Sunday.
Black History Month
Churches across the Miss-Lou are celebrating the beginning of Black History Month. Daughter of Zion Baptist Church will present its black history program at 11 a.m. Sunday, and St. James Baptist Church in Ridgecrest will host its black history service at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Krewe of Phoenix Mardi Gras Parade
The 34th annual Krewe of Phoenix Mardi Gras Parade will roll through downtown Natchez at 5 p.m. Friday.
Parade director Curtis Moroney said the event is traditionally the largest Mardi Gras parade in the area.
Some streets will be closed for the parade. Floats will line up on Broadway Street to prepare, then turn on Canal, up Main Street, left on Rankin, left on Franklin, then return to Broadway Street.
Moroney asks residents not to park on the west side of Broadway Street Friday to facilitate preparations.
Alcorn State University Choir Concert
The Alcorn State University Concert Choir and Men’s Chorale will be featured at 6 p.m. Saturday at New Beginnings Baptist Church on Triumph Lane. The concert is part of the university’s Black History Month celebration.
Religions of the World at Grace United Methodist Church
Grace United Methodist Church will present the first in a series of public classes on the religions of the world, titled Christianity and Other Faiths, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. The first class will focus on Hinduism.
