MINDEN, La. — Trinity Episcopal overcame first-half foul trouble for two of their key players and defeated Tallulah Academy 55-48 Friday afternoon in the girls semifinals of the MAIS Class AA South State Tournament at Glenbrook School.

D’Asia Mitchell sparked Trinity Episcopal’s offense with a game-high 27 points, including four 3-pointers and 5-for-6 shooting at the free-throw line. Rearnna Mayberry had nine points. Jasmine Ivory and Tali Beard, were limited to seven and six points, respectively.

“It was a hard-fought battle, but we won. The girls hung in there. Nobody fouled out, but there was some great defense,” Lady Saints head coach Fay Minor said. “They were trying to keep us from scoring. Jasmine pulled the defense out a couple of times. Sloane (Young) didn’t have her shooting game, but she played good defense.”

Trinity Episcopal (23-5) will take on Claiborne Academy at 3:15 p.m. today in the girls championship game. Claiborne Academy defeated host Glenbrook 33-31 in the day’s other semifinal game.

Silliman Institute 48,

ACCS 39

COLUMBIA — Adams County Christian School saw its opportunity to play for a South State championship come to an end Friday afternoon as it fell to Silliman Institute 48-39 in a semifinal-round game at the MAIS Class AAA South State Tournament at Columbia Academy.

“We just came out flat. We couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end or the defensive end. As I always say, in victory or defeat to God be the glory,” Lady Rebels head coach Melanie Hall said.

ACCS also had no answer for Silliman’s duo of Mary Morris and Kari Overland, who led the Lady Wildcats with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Still, the Lady Rebels were tied with Silliman at halftime, 20-20. But ACCS was outscored by the Lady Wildcats 15-9 in the third quarter.

Mackenzie Boyd led the Lady Rebels with seven points while Brianna Henson, Anna McDaniel and Ashleigh Williams had six points each.

ACCS (23-9) takes on Columbia Academy today at 2 p.m. in the girls’ consolation game. Columbia Academy lost to Bowing Green School 50-32 in the other semifinal game.
