Two teens charged in Valentine’s Day shooting

NATCHEZ — Two men have been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting Valentine’s Day night on Homochitto Street shooting.
In the incident, 20-year-old Revonne Corey was killed while traveling as a passenger in a car on Homochitto Street.
The shooting occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, and Corey was pronounced dead hours later in the emergency room of Merit Health Natchez.
Police investigators say they believe Melvin C. Watts Jr., 19, was playing with an allegedly stolen firearm in the backseat of the car when the weapon discharged, killing Corey.
Watts was arrested Tuesday on charges of culpable negligent manslaughter and possession of a stolen firearm. He is in custody without bond.
Manslaughter carries a maximum 15-year sentence.
Knowing possession of a stolen firearm carries a maximum 10-year sentence.
Kadeem Conner, 17, was driving the car when the incident occurred, police said. He was arrested Monday for possession of a stolen firearm and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. He is in custody without bond.
Possession of marijuana carries a maximum sentence of 5 years.
Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said both men have been in police custody since the incident.
Ford said courts have not decided at this time whether Conner will be charged as an adult.
