NATCHEZ Services for Viola “ Aunt Baby” Mearday, 71, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at her residence, will be 11 a.m. today at Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church.02:19 ViolaMearday obitpic

Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Mearday was born Nov. 1, 1944, in Adams County, the daughter of Peter and Louella Mearday.

She was retired from Natchez Steam Laundry.

Viola accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. She united with Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church and served as a faithful member of the usher board until she died.

Mrs. Mearday was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Oliver J. Mearday; three sisters, Doretha Mearday, Dorothy Mearday and Alberta King; and two brothers, Donald Lee Mearday and Peter Mearday.

Survivors include eight nieces, Margaret Carter and husband, William, Lisa Myles and husband, Jimmy, Vernessa Smith and husband, Willie, Amanda King and Carolyn Jackson, all of Natchez; the Rev. Charlene Mearday, CeCe Murphy and Melvia Mearday, all of Chicago; one nephew, James Mearday of Chicago; 31 grand-nieces and nephews; 42 great-grand-nieces and nephews; a best friend, Ruby L. Bibbins; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Antoine, Kenyon, Marcus, Derrick, Brandon and Jeremy Mearday.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tyrone, Damon and Jeremiah Mearday, Rolando King, Cory Ray Good and Carrington Jackson.
