Delta Charter’s Darby Beach rounds third base in a game against Beekman Charter Tuesday in Ferriday.

FERRIDAY — Delta Charter School’s softball game against Beekman High School was suspended in the top of the fourth inning because of lightning and severe weather in the area Tuesday.

The game will resume at a later date.

Beekman Charter was leading Delta Charter 9-3 at the time of the suspension and was threatening with two runners on and two out.

“We’re going to try and reschedule at a different time,” Delta Charter coach Jeannie Beach said. “It’s not a district game, so we don’t have to make it up. But of course, being a competitor, we want to make it up.”

Beekman opened the scoring with a three-run homer by Ashton Reynolds that sailed well over the right field wall.

But the Lady Storm would claw their way back. Delta Charter scored two runs in the second and added one more in the third to tie the game.

Bailey Yates and Jania Burns each recorded run-scoring singles for Delta Charter and Kaitlin Dooley roped an RBI double.

Beekman, however, would seize momentum in third.

The Lady Tigers scored four runs in the frame before adding two more in the fourth when play was stopped.

“This is not the same team that I saw play on Saturday,” Beach said in reference to her team’s 6-5 win over Forest. “We had a lot of defensive errors, mental errors and pitching errors. Hopefully, we can practice (today) and get back at it.”
