Led by Chris Beckman’s 30 points, Episcopal High School eliminated Ferriday High School 61-51 in the second round of the LHSAA Class 2A basketball tournament Wednesday night.
“It was definitely a road game,” Ferriday coach K.G. Watkins said. “It was definitely a home court advantage. We just didn’t play well enough. We’re going to admit we didn’t play well enough. We could have gotten a few more calls but we still just did not play well enough to win.”
Ferriday controlled a 22-19 lead at halftime. Watkins said a run by Episcopal, to open the second half, led to a 26-point quarter for the Knights, and the Trojans could not bounce back.
“In the third quarter, we came out a little lackadaisical,” Watkins said. “We had few turnovers and they went on a nice run. Once they did that we just couldn’t overcome it.”
Ronald Williams and Dantreize Scott lead Ferriday in scoring with 15 and 12 points, respectively
Episcopal’s Chris Beckman had a game-high 30 points.
Ferriday’s 19-8 season ended in the second round of the tournament. Episcopal advances to play North Caddo on March 4.
Grambling 66, Block 55
Block High School’s season concluded Wednesday night with a 66-55 loss to Grambling High School in the LHSAA Class 1A tournament.
Block held a one-point advantage at the half, but a 24-point fourth quarter from Grambling provided the late effort the Kittens needed to pull out the win.
“My kids out worked the other team,” Block coach Jeffery Odom said. “We showed a lot of heart. Two of three refs did a good job, one did not.”
Gaetre Barber had 18 points for Block. Chris Homles finished with 15 points.
“The smaller block boys showed a lot of heart,” Odom said. “They represented their school and community team better than any other team I’ve coached.”
